Finance Minister Highlights Priorities for Cohesion Policy at European Parliament

The Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, presented the priorities of the Cypriot presidency for Cohesion Policy to the Regional Development Committee (REGI) of the European Parliament. He emphasized the importance of agriculture and livestock farming for Cohesion Policy, as well as the need for a human-centered approach. Mr. Keravnos referred to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus, highlighting the serious impact on farmers, livestock farmers, processing industries, and exports, especially halloumi. He stressed the need to support those affected and to maintain agriculture and livestock farming as key elements of Cohesion Policy. The Minister of Finance stated that Cohesion Policy must strengthen the EU's internal resilience and promote strategic autonomy. He highlighted the transformative impact of Cohesion Policy for Cyprus, citing examples of infrastructure modernization, SME support, and strengthening research and digital transition.
