Cat Shooting Incidents Reported in Paphos and Larnaca

The Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation reports two new cases of cat abuse in Larnaca and Paphos, expressing concern over the increase in violence against animals. In Larnaca, a cat was allegedly shot with an airgun in a residential area, raising public safety concerns. In Paphos, one cat was found paralyzed with a bullet in its body and had to be euthanized, while multiple pellets were found in another kitten. The Movement states that the Animal Action Team frequently receives similar complaints, indicating that this is a recurring phenomenon and not isolated incidents. Regarding the cases in Paphos, the Police have been informed and the complainants will visit the Central Police Station. The Movement expresses satisfaction with the Police response but points out that the initial handling of the case was not as expected for such a serious incident. It calls for an immediate and thorough investigation of the incidents, the use of scientific evidence, and full enforcement of the law. The protection of animals, according to the Movement, is directly linked to public safety, as the use of weapons in residential areas poses a serious risk. The Movement calls on the competent authorities to take immediate measures to address violence against animals and protect citizens.
