Karoyian: A Political Cycle Has Closed - I Was Never a Deserter

Marios Karoyian, president of DIKO, in an extensive interview, discussed his decision not to run in the upcoming elections, characterizing it as the result of long consideration and recognizing the need for renewal in the political landscape. He emphasized that a political cycle has closed after years of service in various positions, such as a Member of Parliament and President of the House of Representatives. He defended DIKO's path, which began in 2018, and expressed his belief that the party has roots and expresses a “pragmatic” political approach. He rejected accusations of abandonment, stating that he was never a “deserter” and that he took “lonely paths.” Referring to relations with DIKO, he explained that cooperation requires a common basis and that their differences hinder such a prospect. He expressed the view that his absence from the ballots will not affect the outcome, as the ballots include new and experienced candidates. In conclusion, Mr. Karoyian presented an image of a politician who has completed a cycle and wishes to give space to young people, while defending the political positions and work of DIKO.
