Yellow Warning for Rain, Storms and Strong Winds: How Long Will It Last?

The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for a combination of rain, isolated thunderstorms, and strong north-easterly winds that are expected to intermittently affect the island from Saturday, March 14th at 07:00 for 24 hours. Rainfall is likely to exceed 55 millimeters locally. A low-pressure system affecting the area will cause cloudiness, rain, and possible thunderstorms, with sleet or snow expected on the higher peaks of Troodos. Winds will be moderate to strong, with gusts reaching 7 Beaufort, especially along the coasts. The sea will be rough. The temperature will range around 16 degrees Celsius inland, 17 on the coast, and 8 in the mountains. Tonight, the weather will remain cloudy with rain and possible thunderstorms, while sleet or snow is expected in the mountains. Winds will be northerly to north-easterly, moderate to strong, but will later turn westerly and weaken. The temperature will drop to 9 degrees in the mountains, 12 on the coast, and close to zero in the higher mountains, where frost is expected. On Sunday, the weather will be partly cloudy with local rain and possible thunderstorms, while sleet or snow is not ruled out in the mountains. On Monday and Tuesday, local increased cloud cover is expected with a possibility of rain in the mountains. The temperature will rise on Sunday and remain at the same levels until Tuesday, slightly above the average climatic values for the season.
