China and Russia Agree to Strengthen Defense Ties

China and Russia have agreed to bolster their defense ties, according to statements released following a phone call between the two countries' defense ministers. Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun emphasized the need for strategic coordination and improved exchange mechanisms, while Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov highlighted the importance of continuously analyzing the security situation and taking appropriate measures. The talks took place just days after the first direct contact between Moscow and Kyiv regarding the US peace plan for Ukraine. Despite their close cooperation, Beijing maintains a neutral stance on the war in Ukraine and has not condemned the Russian invasion. Western governments accuse China of providing economic and logistical support to Russia, including military components. Russia and Ukraine recently held talks in Abu Dhabi regarding the aforementioned peace plan. Belousov stated that events in Venezuela and Iran require attention and coordination between the two countries. The meeting did not include discussion of the war in Ukraine, according to official statements.
