Israeli Delegation in Cyprus to Discuss Aphrodite-Isai Gas Field Agreement

An Israeli delegation, comprising officials from the Ministries of Energy, Finance, and Justice, is in Cyprus to advance an agreement regarding the exploitation of the shared Aphrodite and Isai natural gas fields. The negotiations aim to finalize the terms for the joint development of the cross-border reservoir, which extends into the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) of Cyprus and Israel. Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen emphasized the strategic importance of natural gas for his country and his government's determination to boost production, exports, and the economy. This agreement is considered crucial for deepening energy cooperation between Israel and Cyprus, as well as for the broader energy planning of the Eastern Mediterranean, including potential exports via Egypt and other regional projects. The Israeli government views the agreement as part of a long-term strategy to strengthen regional energy collaboration.
