Iran: Approximately 20 Ships Attacked in the Strait of Hormuz – Attacks Continue

Approximately 20 commercial ships have been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding areas since the de facto blockade began by Iran's Revolutionary Guards, in retaliation for US-Israeli attacks against Iran. Half of these ships are tankers, traversing a narrow passage through which 20% of global oil and natural gas trade passes. According to data from various sources, at least ten tankers have been targeted or have reported attacks since the start of the conflict. The Revolutionary Guards have claimed responsibility for drone attacks on three tankers, while other ships, such as freighters, container ships, and tugboats, have also reported explosions or suspicious activity. The attacks have disrupted traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about global energy security. Although Iran's intentions remain unclear, with conflicting statements from Iranian officials, the situation remains tense. So far, at least six sailors and one port worker have lost their lives, while one sailor remains missing. The situation is deteriorating and requires immediate international attention and action.
