Iran: Constructive New Round of Nuclear Talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the new round of talks with the United States in Geneva as “more constructive” than the previous one, noting that the two sides agreed on “a set of guiding principles” that could lead to a possible agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. It was agreed to continue working on draft texts and to set a date for a third session. Araghchi called on the United States to stop threatening Iran with the use of force. At the same time, Iranian media reported that Iran could temporarily close part of the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States has sent a combat force to the region. The Foreign Minister of Oman, mediator in the negotiations, welcomed the progress made in Geneva.
