Iran Releases Two Reformist Officials

Two officials from the reformist faction in Iran, Javad Emam and Ebrahim Asgarzadeh, were released last night on bail after being arrested in recent days. The arrests followed large anti-government protests in January. The reformist faction had supported President Masoud Pezeshkian in the elections, but members had distanced themselves from the government and supported the protesters. Azar Mansouri, head of the faction, remains in custody but is expected to be released soon. The officials were accused of “insulting national unity” and “coordinating with hostile propaganda.”
