Iran: Views Differ but Talks with US Continue

Iran and the US continue negotiations regarding the lifting of sanctions in exchange for restrictions on Iran's nuclear program, but differences remain regarding the scope and mechanism of implementation. An Iranian official stated that Tehran could consider exporting a portion of its highly enriched uranium stockpile, diluting it, or a regional enrichment consortium, but on the condition that Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear enrichment is recognized. New talks are scheduled for early March. The official noted that the Islamic Republic will not relinquish control of its natural resources, but is open to the participation of US companies as contractors. Meanwhile, President Trump has given Iran a 10-day deadline to reach an agreement.
