Σε δήλωση που μετέδωσε το ημιεπίσημο ιρανικό πρακτορείο ειδήσεων Tasnim, οι Φρουροί ανέφεραν ότι ο Σολεϊμανί σκοτώθηκε σε «επίθεση του αμερικανο-σιωνιστικού εχθρού».
Ο Σολεϊμανί ηγούνταν της Μπασίτζ τα τελευταία έξι χρόνια και επόπτευε τις επιχειρήσεις εσωτερικής ασφάλειας.
