Holy Synod vs Tychikos: Terms, Suspension, and Condemnation of Schism

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus has confirmed the decision of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate regarding the deposition of the former Bishop of Paphos, Tychikos, characterizing his appeal to civil courts as unacceptable. The Synod accused Tychikos of refusing to comply with the terms set by them, of causing unrest among the faithful through statements, and of attempting to create divisions within the Synod. As a result, it decided to impose an indefinite suspension on him until he submits a specific Confession of Faith, withdraws his appeal, condemns his schism, accepts new duties at the Archbishopric, and ceases to cause disturbance. Meanwhile, supporters of Tychikos gathered outside the Archbishopric, expressing their solidarity and challenging the Synod's decision.
