"Particularly Important Invitation": When Cyprus's Level of Representation at the Peace Council is "Locked"

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, described the invitation and Cyprus's participation in the upcoming meeting of the Peace Council for Gaza, as an observer, as "particularly important". Cyprus will highlight its plan for Gaza, which it had presented in Egypt, and which concerns the implementation of three aspects of the American President's plan. Cyprus's participation is accepted by the US, as the country is a member state of the European Union in the region and maintains contacts with leaders of other Mediterranean EU states. The final decision on who will represent Cyprus at the meeting (the President himself or the Minister of Foreign Affairs) will be made tomorrow. Italy has also responded positively to the invitation, and other European countries are expected to participate. Cyprus's participation is as an observer, due to special provisions of the Peace Council and Cyprus's previous non-participation in the Davos meeting.
