Mourning in Crete: Yannis Xylouris, Brother of Nikos Xylouris, Passes Away

The artistic community of Crete is mourning the death of Yannis Xylouris, also known as Psaroyiannis, at the age of 83. The deceased was the brother of the legendary Nikos Xylouris and Psarantonis and belonged to the historic Xylouris family, which has played a crucial role in preserving and spreading the Cretan musical tradition for four generations. Psaroyiannis began playing music at a young age, learning the mandolin, lute, and lyra. He collaborated with prominent lyra players and singers while also composing his own songs, combining tradition with elements of art music. His artistic career included numerous concerts and performances in Greece and abroad.
