Will Trump Strike? Let's Hope So!

Is Donald Trump shifting gears or simply maneuvering? That's the “million-dollar question” in Israel – although it’s not the only one these days. What led Donald Trump to postpone the attack on the Iranian regime? Was it a postponement? Or a cancellation? Or, as some speculate, was it part of a plan to make the regime believe that the US has succumbed to the pressure of its allies in the region – except for Israel – and to facilitate future military operations? A cancellation seems less likely. With all that has happened and with the reputation of US President Donald Trump at stake – after it became clear that the mullahs’ regime was not only “stopping the killing of protesters,” as Donald Trump had said, but was now massacring them – the only way this could be true would be if the regime was counting its days. And that is not the case. Ironically, the regime, in the long term and perhaps even in the medium term, cannot survive. The economy, as we saw yesterday, cannot recover, the snapback of international sanctions and additional US sanctions leave no room for this, while, most indicatively, with the recent data – not even today’s – the Iranian regime needed Brent to be at $126 a barrel, while the price is only $60, and a large part of that ends up in the hole of corruption and the middlemen. However, we are talking about a criminal and paranoid regime staffed by fanatics and, even worse, addressing such people. To maintain its base and avoid leaks, especially in the security forces and the state apparatus, which has also been severely affected by the economic collapse and the almost complete devaluation of the value of their – even secured – salaries, the regime must show strength. Which in this case translates to more tyranny and more blood. Tehran, willingly or unwillingly, has begun to make such mistakes. Today, in a statement, it called on those who “strayed” and took part in the protests to turn themselves in to receive a lighter punishment than the one awaiting them if they do not. In plain terms: we have identified you, if you don’t want us to execute you, come and let us torture you and put you in prison. Many will discover that they are ultimately “enemies of God,” as the Khamenei gang calls them, and will die mysteriously or be led to the gallows as well. All of this, combined with the terrifying number of deaths – there are reports of 16,000 people – and the violence we will certainly see perhaps in the coming days, does not only give the US the opportunity to intervene. It forces them to do so. It should also not be forgotten that another scenario says that the postponement is due to a request from Benjamin Netanyahu himself.
