Death of 92-Year-Old: Daughter Alleges Neglect and Mistreatment at Hospital

The daughter of a 92-year-old patient has filed serious allegations regarding the conditions of his care at the General Hospital of Larnaca, where he passed away after an eight-day stay. The complainant claims that her father was admitted to the hospital with a mild stroke and faced significant delays and deficiencies in the provision of care. According to the complaint, there were difficulties in securing hospitalization and timely medication, and the attempt to insert a nasogastric tube was particularly distressing for the patient, with multiple failed attempts by the nursing staff. The deceased's daughter also reports problems with communication and coordination between medical and nursing personnel. Furthermore, the complainant alleges that there was incorrect information regarding the patient's diet, resulting in a risk of choking, and that the scheduled surgery was canceled due to an incorrect medication administration. The daughter expresses strong anger and disappointment with the way her father was treated, describing him as a “guinea pig.” The OCYPY (State Health Services Organisation) has ordered an immediate investigation into the allegations, however, the daughter of the deceased states that she has already informed the hospital administration about the problem five days ago.
