EU Shields Creators Against Artificial Intelligence

The European Parliament has overwhelmingly approved recommendations to protect creators against artificial intelligence (AI). MEPs are calling for transparency regarding the training data of AI systems, fair compensation for the use of copyrighted works, and the ability for creators to exclude their works from being used for algorithm training. The discussion also concerns cultural issues, as the creative sector is a significant part of the European economy. The creation of a new European market for licensing intellectual content for the legal use of works by AI companies is also proposed, through collective agreements or individual agreements.
