Justice Looms for Tempi Train Crash

The trial for the tragic train crash in Tempi, which claimed the lives of 57 people, begins today in Larissa. 36 individuals are accused, with 33 facing felony charges, including officials from OSE, ERGOSE, RAS, and Hellenic Train. The charges relate to dangerous interference with railway traffic, negligent manslaughter, and bodily harm. Over 350 witnesses are expected to testify, including relatives of the victims and survivors. The trial will be held at the University of Thessaly Conference Center, where all case files have been transferred. Access to the center will be possible from 8 am on the days the trial is held. A large crowd is expected to gather at GAIOPOLIS to express their support to the families of the victims. The charges facing the defendants include dangerous interference with fixed-track transport with possible intent, which led to the death of many people, serious bodily harm, and damage to public utility facilities. These actions are alleged to have been committed repeatedly and jointly. The trial is expected to be long and complex, given the large number of defendants and witnesses, as well as the seriousness of the charges. Its commencement marks an important step in the effort to bring justice for the tragic event.
