Turkey to Participate in Libyan Oil and Gas Tenders

Turkey has announced its participation in the upcoming oil and gas tenders in Libya, which are scheduled to be held in February for the first time in approximately 17 years. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) will participate in cooperation with international energy companies. Ankara is considering two specific areas, one onshore and one offshore, with the aim of immediately starting work if awarded. Bayraktar referred to a previous agreement with the Libyan National Oil Company for seismic surveys in offshore areas, scheduled for 2026. The results of the seismic surveys will determine the next steps, including the possibility of drilling. At the same time, Turkey aims to increase bilateral trade with Libya to over $5 billion in 2026, from $4.4 billion in 2025, with the energy sector being a key factor in achieving this goal. This announcement marks a strengthening of energy cooperation between Turkey and Libya, as well as Turkey's effort for energy security and economic development in the region.
