Cyprus Remains a Safe Destination, Assure Ministers

Ministers Alexis Vafeades and Michalis Damianou assured that Cyprus remains a safe destination during an international conference in Limassol focused on climate neutrality. Despite the volatile situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, life in Cyprus continues normally, and scheduled events, such as the conference, are proceeding as planned. The “Climate Neutral Blue Cities by 2030 – Limassol on the Path to Climate Neutrality” conference aims to establish Limassol as a model for transitioning towards climate neutrality and resilience in the Mediterranean region. Limassol Mayor, Yiannis Armeftis, expressed his hope for achieving this goal. Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeades, emphasized the critical role of coastal cities in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development. In Cyprus, and particularly in Limassol, the high dependence on private cars poses a challenge, as it leads to traffic congestion and high greenhouse gas emissions. To address this issue, the Ministry of Transport is promoting the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, which is a comprehensive framework for transforming the way people move around the city. The active participation of Local Authorities and the implementation of special support mechanisms are essential for the success of this plan. Minister Vafeades expressed his belief that Limassol has the potential to become a model city for the green transition in the Mediterranean.
