Europe in Action through Cohesion Policy and "THALEIA2021-2027"

The European Union's Cohesion Policy remains a crucial mechanism for supporting member states and citizens, especially during times of crisis. In Cyprus, this policy has led to significant projects improving daily life, such as urban renewal, strengthening social infrastructure, and promoting green and digital transition. The "THALEIA2021-2027" program has already implemented projects like the renovation of the University of Cyprus's School of Engineering, the creation of the "Salina" park in Larnaca, and the redevelopment of the Old GSP in Nicosia. Emphasis is placed on the green transition, with projects such as photovoltaic parks, smart energy management systems, and energy upgrades for buildings. Simultaneously, the program strengthens social cohesion through subsidies for childcare, care and employment structures, independent living facilities for people with disabilities, and autism support centers. 2026 is expected to be a strategic year, with the completion of significant projects and preparation for the next programming period 2028-2034. Cyprus will assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, with important negotiations regarding the new European budget and the regulations for the Cohesion Policy funds. Overall, the "THALEIA2021-2027" program contributes to the development of Cyprus, improving the quality of life for citizens and promoting sustainable development. Continued implementation of projects and preparation for the next period are crucial to ensure the effective utilization of European funds.
