Patient's Death Highlights Emergency Medical Response Concerns

Published February 12, 2026, 09:31

The Cyprus Federation of Patient Associations (CFPA) has expressed serious concerns regarding the lack of adequate emergency patient transport mechanisms, following an incident where a patient lost the opportunity for life-saving treatment due to the inability to provide timely air ambulance services. The CFPA is calling for a full investigation of the incident by the Ministry of Health and official public information. The CFPA emphasizes that Cyprus, as an island nation, should have sufficient and guaranteed mechanisms to deal with emergencies, without relying on procedures based in other countries. It highlights the need for an independent pre-hospital care agency with adequate staffing and equipment. The Federation states that since 2024, it has repeatedly requested the creation of such an agency, submitting a written study to the government. It believes that the readiness of the healthcare system should not be tested at the expense of patients. The CFPA expresses hope that a solution will be found soon and that substantial measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future, ensuring that all patients have access to the necessary care promptly and effectively.
