The Power of the Imminent and Specific

The article analyzes the importance of addressing imminent and specific risks versus engaging with abstract visions. Using the example of Richard the Lionheart, the author argues that priority should be given to addressing immediate threats, even if it means postponing long-term goals. The analysis is applied to the Cypriot reality, examining historical examples where engagement with abstract ideas (such as unification with Greece) led to missed opportunities when specific proposals emerged. The article argues that internal crisis and disagreements arise when abstract ideas clash with specific proposals, and that addressing immediate risks is essential to protect interests.
