North Korea Launches Missile Towards Sea of Japan

North Korea launched at least one missile towards the Sea of Japan, according to announcements from the South Korean armed forces and Tokyo, which reported two ballistic missiles. The Japanese Coast Guard confirmed the flight of the missiles, without specifying their final location. This launch is the second test by Pyongyang since the beginning of the year, following a series of missile tests on January 4. The test took place the day after the visit of US Pentagon official Elbridge Colby to Seoul, where he praised South Korea as a “model ally”. North Korea has increased missile tests in recent years, aiming to enhance the accuracy of its weapons and challenge the United States and South Korea. At the same time, Pyongyang is preparing for a significant congress of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea, the first in five years. The country's leader, Kim Jong Un, has already ordered the expansion and modernization of missile production ahead of this congress. Analysts estimate that North Korea's increased missile activity may be linked to its desire to test new weapons and consider potential exports to Russia.
