Appeal Court Increases Sentence for Sexual Abuse of Minor

The Court of Appeal increased the prison sentence for a man convicted of sexually abusing a minor, from 13 to 15 years. The case involved the sexual abuse of a child, which was reported five years after the offenses occurred. The defendant had been found guilty on six counts of rape and sexual abuse. The Court of Appeal rejected the defendant's appeal, while accepting the appeal of the Attorney General, increasing the sentence. The court emphasized that the defendant abused his position of trust as the child's father and sole guardian, causing serious psychological consequences for the victim. Orders for supervision and restrictions after release were also imposed.
