European Parliament: Delay in Unfreezing Approval of EU-US Agreement

A decision on resuming regular legislative procedures for the Turnberry Agreement between the EU and the US was not reached during a meeting of the European Parliament's Trade Committee (INTA) on Monday. The decision now rests with the EP's negotiating team, which will reconvene on Wednesday, February 4th, to reassess the situation. Representatives from the European People's Party (EPP), the European Conservatives (ECR), and Patriots for Europe (PfE) pushed for the resumption of procedures, while Socialists and Democrats (S&D), Renew, Left, and Greens/EF voted against. This delay indicates disagreements within the European Parliament regarding the agreement, which aims to facilitate trade and investment between the EU and the US. The EP's negotiating team must reach a common position before the discussion can proceed at the Trade Committee meeting on February 23-24.
