ETEK: Immediate Implementation of Measures for Listed Buildings

ETEK expresses its full support for the measures announced by the Ministry of Interior for the protection and restoration of listed buildings in Cyprus, while also emphasizing the importance of their immediate implementation. ETEK President, Mr. Konstantinos Konstantis, stressed that Cyprus's listed heritage is an integral part of the country's historical identity. Following the collapse of part of a listed building in Nicosia within the walls, ETEK expressed its concern about dangerous buildings and stressed the need for regular inspections to ensure public safety and prevent hazardous situations. Mr. Konstantis stated that the increase in the recognized restoration cost and changes in licensing procedures will strengthen the restoration of listed buildings. Particular importance is given to the creation of a unified repository of transferable development rights, which will facilitate the transfer and purchase of building rights. ETEK calls on the state to move quickly to implement the measures and to institutionalize regular inspections to ensure the safety and preservation of historical buildings.
