Finance Committee Raises Concerns Over Teleworking Days in the Public Sector

The House Finance Committee discussed the referral of the teleworking law in the public sector, as a matter of separation of powers arose. The DISY amendment, limiting teleworking days to four per month, is considered to interfere with the powers of the Council of Ministers, which has the authority to decide on the number of teleworking days. The Ministry of Finance emphasized that the flexibility given to the Council was to allow it to adjust the number of days according to the results of the implementation, while it desires equal treatment for all employees. DISY MP Onoufrios Koulas argued that the reaction is excessive and that setting a maximum number of days is necessary to avoid pressure from employees. AKEL MP Andreas Kavkalias pointed out that the party did not support the amendment due to practical issues and the specificities of each case, while Aristos Damianou expressed regret that the issue could be taken to the Supreme Court over what he considers a small matter.
