Defense Committee: Raising the Age Limit for NCO Appointments – Attracting Specialized Personnel

The Ministry of Defense and the GEFF are promoting changes to the way NCOs are appointed to the National Guard, aiming to increase the upper age limit from 26 to 32 years and attract specialized personnel. This change will allow individuals with degrees and postgraduate titles to participate in the selection process. Successful candidates will be able to be appointed with the rank of Corporal or Sergeant, depending on their qualifications. The modification aims to cover needs in positions that require increased specialization and academic training. Chief of the National Guard, Emmanouel Theodorou, stated that the need concerns individuals with special qualifications for specific positions and that raising the age limit will facilitate their identification. The proposed change is not expected to create injustices against graduates of cadet schools, as the number of people sought is small and concerns specific positions.
