EOA Paphos Insists on Expansion of Kouklia Desalination Plant

The EOA Paphos is insisting on its request for the expansion of the Kouklia Desalination Plant, in order to cover the increasing water needs of the province. The President of the Organization, Charalambos Pittokopitis, stated that it is critically important to take a political decision immediately to increase water production in anticipation of the summer. Mr. Pittokopitis mentioned that he has contacted the Minister of Agriculture, who appeared positive to the request and gave instructions to the Water Development Department. However, the contracting company informed the EOA that it has not yet received official approval from the Ministry. If the green light is given, the company estimates that it will be able to increase water production by 5-6 thousand cubic meters per day in about five or six months. The EOA's request concerns the expansion of the plant so that daily production increases from 15,000 to 30,000 cubic meters during the summer. The company has already upgraded the plant after its destruction, making it possible to increase its capacity. At the same time, the EOA is also promoting the construction of a new desalination plant in Chrysochous Bay, with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per day. However, even if immediate decisions are made, this plant is not expected to be operational before 2027. For this reason, the EOA considers the immediate expansion of the existing plant in Kouklia a priority.
