Dangerous to Health: The 9 Products Found with Toxic Substances

The Department of Labour Inspection has identified nine products in the Cypriot market containing toxic and carcinogenic substances, mainly car mats. The checks concerned the content of Phthalate Esters and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), with the identified products exceeding the permissible limits. These substances are classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic and toxic to reproduction, and are not easily biodegradable, accumulating in the environment. Legislation sets a maximum concentration of 0.0001% by weight for such substances in products that come into contact with the skin. The identified products are: Car mat JUMBO, Car mat AUTOMAX, Car mat GOOD YEAR, Car steering wheel LOOCAR, Car mat BOTTARI, Car mat ULTIMATE, Car mat FALCON, Car mat GEAR, Car mat universal. The Department has begun the process of withdrawing non-compliant products from the market. In addition, the products have been reported to the Safety Gate (RAPEX) European Rapid Alert System for non-food products.
