Data Protection Authority: Privacy Remains a Fundamental Right

The Data Protection Commissioner, Maria Manouli Christofidou, reminds that the protection of privacy is a fundamental right, on the occasion of Data Protection Day (January 28th). The Data Protection Authority continues to work to strengthen citizens' rights and foster a culture of compliance and respect for personal data. In an era of rapid technological development, where digital presence is a daily occurrence, trust can only be built through respect, transparency, security, and responsibility. This day has been established by the Council of Europe to highlight the importance of protecting privacy. January 28th was chosen as Data Protection Day to commemorate the entry into force of the Council of Europe's Convention 108, which is the first legally binding international treaty on the protection of personal data. The Commissioner emphasizes that personal data is not just information, but part of our identity, dignity, and life, and therefore requires respect and protection.
