Cyprus Launches Website Dedicated to Foot-and-Mouth Disease

The Ministry of Agriculture of Cyprus has launched a dedicated website (https://www.gov.cy/footandmouth/) for foot-and-mouth disease in response to the crisis affecting the primary sector. So far, approximately 30,000 animals have been compulsorily culled, representing 5.5% of the livestock. The website aims to provide central information to farmers and citizens, providing information on prevention, management, and compensation. It includes detailed instructions on symptoms, modes of transmission, protection zones, and compensation procedures, as well as answers to frequently asked questions. For farmers, it provides examples of calculating advance compensation payments, while for citizens, it clarifies that foot-and-mouth disease does not pose a risk to public health or food safety.
