Greece Imposes Price Caps on Fuel and Food Until June 30

The Greek government has announced measures to combat profiteering and protect consumers from rising prices on fuel and food, amid concerns about the crisis in the Middle East. Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis assured that there are no supply issues in Greece, but the government is closely monitoring the situation and will take further action if necessary. As part of this effort, a cap on fuel profit margins is being introduced, with a limit of 5 cents per liter for wholesalers and 12 cents per liter for gas stations. These measures will be implemented immediately through legislative content. Additionally, a price cap on food items has been announced, aiming to prevent profit margins from exceeding 2025 levels. Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, warned that fines for violations will reach up to 5 million euros, depending on the size of the company. The government acknowledges that the crisis in the Middle East is affecting the supply chain and creating concerns about inflation, and is committed to taking all necessary measures to protect citizens and the economy.
