Cyprus: Farmers Await Instructions on Cultivation in Buffer Zone After Turkish Provocations

Calm prevailed today in the buffer zone at Mammari following yesterday's incident involving provocations by Turkish troops against Greek Cypriot farmers. The farmers did not visit the area today, and the Community Council is in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Police. Nikos Kotziapasii, President of the Community Council, stated that they are awaiting instructions from the Ministry on where they can cultivate, as the area they have been using for the past ten years is being disputed by Turkish troops. He also mentioned that if it is determined they were cultivating illegally, they should be compensated. He emphasized that the priority is the safety of the farmers and avoiding any victimization. The United Nations conducted patrols in the area today, using vehicles and a helicopter.
