ECB Warns of Risks from Bank Interconnections with Funds

The European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Systemic Risk Council are warning of the growing risks arising from the close interconnections between European banks and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs). Their report states that banks are net borrowers from NBFIs, creating vulnerabilities in funding and liquidity. It is noted that banks' exposures to NBFIs account for approximately 10% of their total assets, while income from these relationships is increasing. Supervisory authorities emphasize the need for closer monitoring of these interconnections in order to mitigate risks to the financial stability of the Eurozone.
