Iran Denies Targeting Cyprus, Turkey, and Azerbaijan

The Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, stated that the Iranian Armed Forces did not target Cyprus, Turkey, or Azerbaijan, denying any involvement in attacks against these countries and characterizing reports of such attacks as “provocations” or “false flag attacks.” Mr. Baghaei emphasized that Iran will continue to defend itself but does not desire war with its Muslim neighbors. The spokesperson also downplayed the possibility of a ceasefire as long as the attacks continue, stating that Tehran will continue to target facilities used by the attackers for its legitimate defense. This statement comes during a period of increased tension in the region. Mr. Baghaei reiterated that Iran has no war to wage with its Muslim neighbors but will protect its interests and respond to any attack. Tehran accuses other powers of inciting conflicts in the region. The Iranian statement comes in response to reports of potential attacks from Iranian territory against Cyprus, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, which have caused concern in the region and led to increased military readiness.
