Father George Passes Away: Lying in State and Funeral Arrangements

Economos Father George Nikolaou, aged 81, passed away on February 12th. The respected priest was from Prasteio Morphou, Neo Livadi, and formerly resided in Astromeritis. His funeral service will be held at the Holy Church of Agios Auxivios in Astromeritis on Saturday, February 14th, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., presided over by Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou. Prior to the funeral, a Matins service and Divine Liturgy of the Saturday of Souls will be held at the church starting at 7:00 a.m., with funeral chants for priests being sung. Following the service, the body will be placed for public viewing. The children of the deceased are priests Michael and Nektarios, Economos George, Panagiotis, Georgios, and their respective spouses (Eleni, Niki, Evgenia, Skee, Niki). The family requests donations to be made for the construction of the New Holy Church of Agios Auxivios in Astromeritis instead of wreaths. Father George leaves behind a rich spiritual and social legacy in the local community.
