Barcelona to Hold Presidential Elections on March 15th

Barcelona has announced that presidential elections will be held on March 15th. The vote will take place at Camp Nou during the LaLiga match against Sevilla. This decision allows current president Joan Laporta to proceed with the sporting planning for the next season with greater certainty. Laporta had already considered holding the elections in March, but there was also the alternative of postponing them to June, after the end of the season. The choice of March is considered more favorable for Laporta, as the team is in good shape and has prospects for titles. Four candidates are participating in the electoral landscape: Joan Laporta, Victor Font, Xavi Vilajoana, and Marc Siria. Marca reports that the current situation is particularly positive for Laporta, as the team has won a title, is at the top of LaLiga, and has qualified for the Champions League. Furthermore, the expected increase in the capacity of Camp Nou and the possible completion of the investigation into the Negreira case further strengthen Laporta’s chances of re-election. The elections are expected to be close, but Laporta is considered the favorite.
