Irene Charalambidou: Submits Two Bills to Combat Corruption – “Tax Audit of Officials for Possible Corruption Offences

MP Irene Charalambidou is submitting two bills to the Parliamentary Legal Committee to combat corruption. The first proposal concerns the Independent Authority against Corruption and aims to obligate the Authority to inform the Tax Commissioner when involvement of an official is detected in a corruption case, in order to conduct a tax audit. The second proposal concerns the Tax Commissioner and allows for a tax audit of an official involved in a corruption case, after notification by the Independent Authority. Ms. Charalambidou emphasizes that these proposals aim to enhance transparency, the effectiveness of the state, and the prevention of corruption through timely information exchange and the utilization of the powers of the competent authorities.
