Poisoned Bait, Dead Dogs and Rabbits in Cages Found in Pano Lefkara

A serious case of wildlife and hunting dog poisoning is being investigated by the Game and Fauna Service in the Pano Lefkara area. During inspections, poisoned baits were found outside a fenced rabbit farm, along with two dead dogs showing clear signs of poisoning. Inside the farm, officials discovered packages of illegal pesticide substances, believed to originate from the occupied territories, as the instructions were written in Turkish. The possession of these substances is illegal in the Republic. Furthermore, seven live rabbits were found in wooden cages, a practice that violates the farm's operating conditions. Rabbits were also found in poor living conditions near the rabbits. The Game and Fauna Service points out that this situation poses serious risks of disease transmission to rabbits and wild populations, with potentially unpredictable consequences for the ecosystem. The farm manager has been reported and the farm's operating license is expected to be suspended.
