EU and Syria Open New Chapter in Relations with €620M Support Package

The European Union and Syria have opened a new chapter in their relations with the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa to Damascus. The visit marks the beginning of a renewed bilateral cooperation, based on three pillars: a new political partnership, strengthening trade, and economic support for humanitarian aid and recovery. The EU is committed to allocating approximately €620 million for the years 2026-2027 to support Syria in these areas. European officials emphasized the importance of a peaceful transition, reconciliation, and regional stability.
