EU: Ursula von der Leyen Faces Another Vote of No Confidence

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will once again face a vote of no confidence in the European Parliament. The President of the Parliament, Roberta Metsola, has already informed the leaders of the political groups. The debate and vote are expected to take place next week in Strasbourg. This is the fourth motion of no confidence against von der Leyen and her Commission in six months. The new motion is being submitted by the far-right “Patriots for Europe” group, which strongly criticizes the Commission President for the trade agreement with the Mercosur countries (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay). The “Patriots for Europe” group includes MEPs from France’s National Rally and the party of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. To be debated and voted on, a motion of no confidence must be supported by at least 10% of MEPs.
