Golden Dawn Criminal Organization: El. Zaroulia, Wife of Michaloliakos, Goes to Prison – Suspension of Sentence Rejected

Former Golden Dawn MP Eleni Zaroulia was sentenced to five years in prison by the Five-Member Criminal Court of Appeal and was imprisoned, as her request for suspension of the sentence was rejected. This decision marks the first detention of a member of the Golden Dawn leadership after the initial conviction. Also, three other convicted persons – Giorgos Dimou, Konstantinos Papadopoulos, and Georgios Skalkos – were sent to prison, having been sentenced to between 5 and 7 years in prison, but had been granted a suspension of execution of the sentence until the appeal was heard. The prosecutor proposed the rejection of the request to convert the sentence to a monetary penalty, a proposal accepted by the court. A suspension of execution of the sentence was granted to seven defendants with the restrictive condition of a three-year ban on leaving the country, while the sentence of another four was converted to a monetary penalty. In total, for 11 convicted persons who had not served their sentence, either the sentence was converted to a monetary penalty or a suspension was granted. It is noted that 24 of the 42 convicted persons have already been released on parole. However, the murderer of Pavlos Fyssas, Giorgos Roupakias, and the former Golden Dawn MPs Ilias Kasidiaris and Ioannis Lagos remain in prison. This decision marks a significant development in the Golden Dawn case and the administration of justice for its criminal activities.
