Residents Evacuate Akrotiri After Drone Crash

Following the crash of a drone on the runway of the Akrotiri British Bases, residents of the Akrotiri municipal district evacuated their homes, with many spending the night at the Limassol Emergency Center (Limassol K.E.N.), following instructions from the President of the Republic. The British Bases were put on full alert, while the Base Police closed the roads leading to Akrotiri. Personnel of the Bases received electronic messages instructing them to remain in their homes and take shelter under furniture, away from windows, due to a threat to safety. A second message reported a drone strike on the runway and minor property damage, with no injuries. The Mayor of Kourion, Pantelis Georgiou, went to the municipal district to inform residents about the availability of the Limassol K.E.N. President Christodoulides was immediately informed and gave the relevant instructions. The British Bases did not comment on the incident, referring to the Press Office of the UK Ministry of Defence. The situation remains fluid and authorities are closely monitoring developments.
