Turkish Cypriot Negotiator: Ready for Constructive Steps in Cyprus Talks

Mehmet Danas, the negotiator for the Turkish Cypriot side, stated they are ready for constructive steps in the Cyprus issue, emphasizing the need for good faith and the creation of a positive climate. This was announced in a written statement following a meeting between Erhurman and the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin. The meeting discussed developments after the last trilateral and the deadlock regarding confidence-building measures. Mr. Erhurman expressed his satisfaction with Ms. Holguin's comments regarding the informal 5+1 meeting and the proposed methodology. He also highlighted the need to overcome the stagnation prevailing since Kran Montana and create an atmosphere conducive to finding a solution, as well as to move the two communities away from the idea of a solution that cannot even be agreed upon regarding the opening of new crossing points. Mr. Danas stated that the Turkish Cypriot people are ready to contribute to this effort.
