Two House Fires in Cyprus Within Hours - Fireplace and Icon Stand Cited as Causes

The Cyprus Fire Service experienced increased operational activity in the last 24 hours, responding to a total of 39 calls, including 20 fires and 19 special services. Two of the fires occurred in homes within a few hours of each other. The first, in Kalavasos, was caused by heat loss in the fireplace chimney, damaging part of the wooden roof. The second, in Aglantzia, broke out in a small icon stand and was extinguished by the homeowner's housekeeper before the Fire Service arrived, causing damage to the icons and surrounding paint. Additionally, the Fire Service intervened in a serious traffic accident on the Paphos-Limassol highway, rescuing the driver and transporting him to the hospital.
