Two Proposals Submitted to Parliament for Housing Policy

MP Michalis Yakoumi submitted two bills to parliament on housing policy. The first proposal concerns the establishment of a Housing Policy Fund, which will be funded by a 1% fee on property transfers worth over one million euros, as well as from other sources. The revenue will be allocated to social housing programs, restoration of housing stock and support for vulnerable groups. The second proposal concerns the establishment of a Unified Housing Policy Council, which will function as a coordinating and advisory body for the development and implementation of a national housing strategy. These proposals are part of Cyprus' international obligations regarding the right to housing and provide for the creation of a Housing Observatory and an electronic portal to inform citizens.
