President Christodoulides Preparing Two Unilateral Measures for Turkish Cypriots

President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, is preparing two unilateral measures to benefit Turkish Cypriots, focusing on healthcare and the economy. According to sources, the President seeks the positive stance of the Turkish Cypriot leader, Erhurman, before announcing the measures, aiming to avoid escalating tensions. This effort is linked to a desire to build a personal relationship of trust between Christodoulides and Erhurman. Furthermore, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin, is expected to visit Cyprus by the end of the month. Ms. Holguin will meet with President Christodoulides and has proposed a joint meeting with him and Mr. Erhurman, pending a response. Ms. Holguin's contacts will precede her arrival in Geneva, Brussels, and Washington, indicating an attempt at international coordination regarding the Cyprus issue. The upcoming visit and meetings are expected to contribute to finding solutions and restarting negotiations. Overall, the effort, both from the President and the UN, appears to aim at creating a more positive climate and promoting cooperation between the two communities in Cyprus.
