Satellite Technology Detects Water Leaks - Solutions for Drought Prevention

Sesilink presented an innovative technology for detecting water leaks using satellite technology. The system identifies hidden leaks by scanning the ground with a ground-penetrating radar installed on a satellite and recognizing the spectral signature left by water when it mixes with soil. The technology can be used in both water networks and irrigation systems, where the largest losses occur (around 60%). Although the technology is advanced, the human factor remains essential for confirming and repairing leaks. The company has already carried out a pilot application in the Paralimni Water Supply with positive results and hopes to integrate the technology into government policy for prevention and resilience.
